Question Teasing help?

Hyello (:
So i have my hair layered and on the top of my hair kind of like the "halo" of my top part of my head is what i tease. But the problem is.. I don't know how to correctly tease.
It never stays put and it turns out really knotty and i can't seem to make it poofy without the tangles.

Help me?

I would suggest getting some cream or spray that doesn't make hair stiff or shiny. They do make it, it can just be difficult to come by. Anyway, once you have it you can use some at the roots of your 'halo' to hold it in place, and it will still look kind of poofy if you use a blow dryer first. Hope that helped ^^

my sister teased my hair once... but she made me a mohawk for wacky hair day at school. i dont think it will help with the teasing that you guys r thinking of cuz it makes ur hair a real mess and sligthly tangley. but she grabed a section of hair and ran the brush up and down along it til it was in bunches... but once again im guessing thats not wat your guys r thinking of...
~tried to help. sorry if i didnt~ ._.

ok soo um make sure when you tease ur hair that it is free of tangles and you only tease the top layer , I suggest that you use about a fist full of hair , and then make sure , that you Use a VERY and I repeat VERY STRONG HAIR Spray [/b]. then make sure that your knots dont show , if they do u can take ur comb and lightly brush them , unless thats what u want .oh and if u dont no how to tease , you take your peice of hair and I start about half way up the peice of hair and comb down and out fast. then i spray it , i repeat about twice, and make sure u do the same for each piece of hair, and also they have tons of videos that explain it on youtube . but it wont trun out exectly right the first time . it takes practice . GOOD LUCK! hope i helped

Okay, so listen up people this is important information.

Me being a girl with short hair and all... I think I know an efficient way for teasing. 'Cause, let's face it... short, teased hair looks like total crap if it's knotted up or fuzzy.

THE KEY TO TEASING:
1. The Hairspray
The girl in the helpful video posted above me uses Rave hairspray. I HATE RAVE! I used to use Tresemme, but I switched to Rave a short while ago because it was a whole lot more spray for a whole lot more less. Biiig mistake. I can't stand it. It makes my hair feel yucky, and even the strongest of Rave sprays grow weak after a few playful fluffs or a couple hours out on the town.
The main advantages of Rave are that it's efficient for those who use hairspray often/daily (me) and it's available for poor people. That's it.
2. The Comb
Yes, children: C-O-M-B. No brush. Haven't your mothers taught you anything? For all of you girls out there, I order you to throw out your brushes and replace them with lovely plastic combs. Brushes are horrid to your hair. They cause split ends and, if it's cheap enough, make your hair static-ish and yucky. This is not good. If a typical brush damages your hair with regular brush strokes, what do you think happens when you backcomb with it? Don't use a brush! Use a comb, preferably one with its teeth close together (better for teasing). Backcombing is not healthy for hair no matter what, but at least you aren't utterly destroying it with those nasty, bulky, plastic, bristly contraptions you call a hair grooming tool.
3. Straightening
No emo child should breathe the same air as another's if he/she does not own a straightener! I mean, c'mon, everyone has a straightener. And for teasing hair, straight hair is most effective. It'll stick out more, be more defined, and give that teased hair an edge rather than poofy weirdness. Always use a serum for straightening hair! We're trying to keep your hair alive and healthy, not dead and lumpy. Save that look for the goths.
4. Separation
Separation of hair is key; that girl in the video above separated her hair. Kudos to her. For me, it's a lot more difficult. I can't simply tie my hair back in a ponytail and whistle a tune. There's some strategy to it. For me, I start farthest back (I don't tease my hair in the very back, I spike it) and work my way towards the front, teasing top layers first. For a "quickie" when I begin styling my hair, I lightly spray hairspray into my hair (at a distance, mind you) at all angles and tease it with my fingers first (you know: playfully push hair upward), so that the spray is set in the roots. Then I go ahead and tease with my trusty-musty(?) comb. The light spray keeps the tease in longer without me having to spray the root after every teased section. Then when I'm done, I can go back and use the spray for where I really need it, and tease/straighten a bit more if I have to.
But yes, separation is significant for teased hair because without it, your head will look like a back-combed fuzzball (believe me). That's also one of the main causes a lot of people get knots in their hair when they try to tease it: a) not teasing in small enough sections, b) using a brush rather than a teasing comb, or c) back-combing too fast for too long.
5. Proportion
A lot of people have trouble with teasing because they do not have enough layers. Guys, this means SHORTER LAYERS ON TOP! I've seen so many people just go to the salon and get more layers to the middle or bottom of their hair. To make it proportional, you have to have equal distance between layers! This is why choppy is good: Helps with sections, and it's all over. Having layers that are too low causes the hair to knot up, or -- even worse -- make the top of your head look flat (because of weight distribution). Then again, having too many layers on top will cause the hair to look too high on the head and not spread out enough further down. This is why proportion comes in handy. Short, textured layers are a must, but don't go overboard or your hair will not only have too few layers on bottom, but make your hair look stringy when styled with any product.
6. Poofiness
I assure you, your hair will be sticking out like Yu-Gi-Oh after you've teased it enough. This is the reason I hate using Rave hairspray: After teasing it, it's time to use your fingers and toy with the hair until it has your desired amount of poof. With Rave, the hairspray will loose its effect instantly after a little hand-to-hair contact... meaning more spraying, therefore more of that nasty cheap-hairspray-yuckiness in your hair.
You can playfully fluff it up like the girl in the above video did, or you can tone it down a bit by lightly grabbing teased sections and pulling downward/horizontally at them a bit to loosen the spray's effect. Remember the importance of sections. You don't want to jumble your hair together into that great big fuzzball I was talking about. To help with fly-aways and keeping sections of hair more defined, coat your fingers with a styling wax or a little bit of strong pomade when working with the hair to achieve your desired poof.

I hope this post was at least a teensie bit helpful/entertaining.

To tease just take a comb and a handful of hair and comb to your scalp a few times and use hair spary like crazy. =]
