Nah, I wouldn't say posers. Just dumbasses. I didn't know what emo was at first, when I do recall in 7th grade a kid asked about it. My Language Arts teacher said "emotional" and I was confused at the time. But then I looked it up on Wikipedia.
I don't believe you're a poser for liking different music and styles. I mean, what's wrong with being open to other things? If you're such a non-conformist then why is there a set of rules/norms? And that whole "calling yourself emo makes you a poser" rule is confusing. If you were or weren't, how could you admit it? I think that's something those kids that hates labels say so they wouldn't be annoyed as much.
Though I do believe if you know very little about it, not even a basic history of how it started, actually believe in the stereotypes, and try to talk tough when you can't walk it---any of those make you either a "poser"/dumbass/just plain annoying.
I do feel "emos" have to kind of prove themselves often, considering they get hate from all corners(the metalheads have more hatred than the "preppy" kids, but at least your "popular" kids can understand) And it's just emberassing when one kid makes a fool out of him/herself.

my little brothers friend is definetly a poser. i dont like calling people posers but he is one for sure. he doesnt like any music that isnt "emo". he says he cuts himself (even though he doesnt, which i find highly annoying). anytime he gets new "emo" clothes, he's like, 'isnt this cool' 'do you think this is emo' blah blah blah. i cant stand it. he says he writes poems and that he will show them to me but he doesnt. he thinks he is "SO EMO". he's not. it annoys the heck out of me. he needs constant reassurance of his emo-ness. i mean, if you say your "emo", and only follow the steryotypes, you really arent. i think "emo" is being different, being yourself, and not caring what people think. a poser is the complete opposite.

I dont actually think im Particularily "emo" and i dont pose to be one either,i just enjoy the different types of music and i also happen to be deppressed and have problems like other teenagers do! :\
Steryotypes were started by Media and Tv,there is really no such thing as "emo" or "goth"! there are just people who like to be different,stand out and basically show themselves in a different way!
I dont class myself as anything because my taste in Music changes!,i can hear a Britney pop song on the radio or tv,but i dont just turn it over cos its not "Emo" enought

The Steryotypes are a load of BULL,when are people going to grow up and realise this and just live life instead of wasting time worrying about being a steryotype and not just themselves........x

My boyfriend has three little brothers. (13 yrs, 11 yrs, 3 yrs.)

Kyle (the 13 yr old) is the most freaking annoying child on the planet because he is a poser on every level.
I always told Keith (my boyfriend) to be more responsible around Kyle because he mimics his choices and actions all the time... like, insanely.

If Keith sews colorful stitches on his pants, so does Kyle (or at least attempts).
If Keith listens to Forever The Sickest Kids, Kyle adds songs by that band on his MySpace playlist.
(If Keith gets a Myspace, so does Kyle!)
If Keith swallows a raw egg, so does Kyle
Trust me, I have seen it all.

I didn't find it too annoying... until one day I took my studded belt off at Keith's house, and Kyle commented on it.
"You have the coolest belts."
So what does the kid do? Go to the state fair with a friend and buy a studded belt, of course! (And it's ugly... Pfft.)

He is such a poser. He can't even be himself. It's like he isn't a person. It's like he can only live by being other people, because the actual him doesn't exist.

I don't know, I just found it oober annoying when I realized that Kyle now mimics me.
